importance Of Story-telling To Child Development




Our life itself is a complete story that starts with birth and ends when our soul leaves our body. The complete story narrates one life that goes through various ups and downs in life. Over the period of time, every life story becomes a historical novel.

When our own life is a complete novel with unknown number of pages, then it's obvious that stories will influence our personality and our lifestyle. Since centuries it has been known as a significant part of wisdom, personality development, healing, and spiritual growth.

Considering the importance of story-telling to child development, psychologists have quoted immense ways it has supported the physical, emotional, and spiritual growth of a child. Since time immemorial it has been recognized as a vehicle to shape a child's life. It is one of the most easiest and convenient ways to inculcate values and virtues within a child.

Many people are unaware of the importance of story-telling but the truth is that it directly influences the way a child thinks, a child talks, and the way a child behaves. The actions and words of a child are also controlled by the morals and values delivered by stories.

There are various types of stories that impart different values and meanings. Today stories have become an important part of child's education that every school and institute is promoting seeing its positive effects on a child's growth. Reading and telling stories in schools help boost a child's vocabulary skills and help them gain control over a particular language.

In the early times the Victorians introduced fairy tales to nursery education because these stories were found to stimulate the imaginations and thinking power of a child. Since then, fairy tales has been a hot favorite amongst children of all ages. There are moral stories that teach lessons of life to children and also help them cope with different situation in life. Stories based on mythology are considered to be the most knowledgeable stories from which children imbibe virtues and ethics. Traditional stories are a great way to carry on traditional beliefs and values from one generation to another. Then, there are funny stories that entertain children and bedtime stories that help them have a peaceful sleep all night. Similarly, there are various other types of kid's stories that directly or indirectly influence the entire life a child.

Story-telling can prove to be the perfect medium to impart the lessons of life and make a child more proficient socially and emotionally.
